While Reel 9 Productions has been working some editing projects and planning what’s next on our plate, I’ve been rehearsing for the world premiere of the play “Losing the Shore”. Produced by BCKSEET, the play opens this Friday, March 18th and runs through April 2nd. There are two previews this Wednesday and Thursday, the 16th and 17th. “Losing the Shore”, by Philadelphia-based playwright Catherine Rush, will play Upstairs at the Adrienne Theater.
So what’s it about? “Losing the Shore” is a historical fiction following politician Adlai Stevenson as he cruises across the Pacific between elections. Set in the 1950s, his ocean voyage parallels the trial and sentencing of the Rosenbergs. This historical event serves as a prism to reflect the various perspectives of his traveling companions and their collective, yet fragmented red scare American psyche.
I’ve been having a blast working on this piece. It’s emotional (bring some tissues), engaging and often very funny. Beautifully directed by Andrew Borthwick-Leslie, the rest of the cast – Kate Brennan, Michael Byrne, Catherine Palfenier and Megan Slater – is absolutely wonderful and has been a joy with which to work. See ya at the theater!
