It’s hard to believe, but our journey making ‘The Way to Kevin’ started way back in 2010 when Kevin invited us to film one of his Mime Performances at a church in North Philadelphia. We didn’t know what to expect heading into that evening but came out knowing that we needed to make a documentary about this sweet young man who described himself as a Minister, a Mime, and a Gay Porn Star. Surprisingly, the experience that lay ahead exceeded the expectations set by that compelling combination of labels.
We filmed Kevin’s story for a year and a half. Several months later, we finished the feature length documentary with the hope that we captured an honest look at Kevin’s life during that time. ‘The Way to Kevin’ was an official selection for QFEST (the Philadelphia Cinema Alliance), MixFest: International LGBT Film & Arts Festival of Color, and the Cinedelphia Film festival. Additionally, we won a Gold Award in the documentary category at the California Film Awards.
Recently, we decided to make a final push with film festival submissions while we were still eligible to do so. We’re happy to announce that our efforts have paid off! ‘The Way to Kevin’ will make it’s International Premiere in Mexico City at the MIC Genero Film Festival. As co-directors, Erin and I will be attending the two showings. We’re excited for this opportunity to continue sharing Kevin’s story to a new, and ever-expanding audience and look forward to sharing our experience once we return!
After this last run of festivals, we hope to find VOD distribution for the film. Until then, if you’d like to see ‘The Way to Kevin,’ DVDs are available for sale here.
